An HIV-infected dad who breached his â??sacred trustâ?? of parenthood and gave his 5-year-old daughter gonorrhea has been sentenced to three years in jail.

His little girl was â??a helpless child who loved and trusted her father,â?? said Superior Court Justice Bonnie Croll.

There is a chance that his daughter will suffer from future infertility, the judge noted.

Last October, Croll found the 47-year-old man, who cannot be named, guilty of sexual assault causing bodily harm and the sexual touching of his daughter in July 2001.

â??By passing gonorrhea on to his young daughter (he) caused her severe physical discomfort,â?? the judge said. Although she was â??crying and screamingâ?? with pain, he didnâ??t tell his wife that he had the disease, the judge said.

â??Even more repulsiveâ?? was the fact that he did not divulge his having gonorrhea when asked directly by his wife, the judge said.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A homeless day laborer was recovering in a hospital Friday after two 10-year-old boys and an older teen were charged with attacking him on a street and smashing a concrete block into his face.

The three boys, each charged with aggravated battery, face a hearing next week to determine if they should remain in juvenile detention. At their first court appearance, the two younger boys were escorted from jail in oversized white jumpsuits, their hands chained in front of them and their legs in shackles.

''They are dangerous,'' the victim, John D'Amico, told The Associated Press from his hospital bed. ''The street doesn't need them. They need to be somewhere.''

D'Amico said he was walking with a friend through a Daytona Beach neighborhood just before 9 p.m. Tuesday when the trio on bicycles started throwing sand and small rocks at them.

Then they got off their bikes and started throwing larger rocks, he said.

D'Amico said he fell into a wall after the 17-year-old punched him in the face, breaking the brick wall. One of the 10-year-olds then slammed a piece of the broken wall onto his face, he said.

D'Amico has had reconstructive surgery on his face since the attack. He said he didn't think he was targeted simply for being homeless.

''I don't look that homeless. I'm not really dirty, slobby homeless,'' he said. ''I'm familiar in the neighborhood. I don't know these kids, never seen them before.''

Police didn't return a phone message left Friday seeking comment, and no parents were in the courtroom during the boys' first appearance before a judge Wednesday.

A police report shows the parents were notified of the boys' arrests.

VIENNA, Austria â?? Three teenage boys took turns raping a 12-year-old girl, filmed the assault with a mobile phone camera and showed the video to classmates, Austrian authorities said Friday.

Police said the rape happened after a birthday party in Freistadt in the province of Upper Austria, and that the girl was assaulted after she became intoxicated and fell asleep. It was not immediately clear when the crime occurred.

Investigators detained the three boys, ages 13, 15, and 16, after they showed a clip of the rape to classmates at school and a student who saw it alerted authorities, police said.

The two older suspects would be formally charged in juvenile court with sexual abuse, officials said. They said the youngest could not be held criminally responsible.

OMAHA, Neb. -- The parents of a 9-week-old baby have lost custody of the infant after the child was allegedly beaten by other kids in the home of her babysitter.

Court documents suggest Naveena Jenkins was thrown, hit and kicked by children in the home of two people who were supposed to be caring for her on Sunday night.

"I asked Destini if she could watch my baby, and she said 'yes'," said 18-year-old Sara Vasquez, the infant's mother.

Destini Phillips and Corneiliou Thomas have each been booked on seven counts of misdemeanor child neglect. They were apparently sleeping when the other children in the home injured the baby.

Vasquez said she left the infant with the couple for just an hour. When she returned, the child was in distress.

"I see the baby, she has no clothes on, no diaper, she's soaking wet. She has a little bit of blood running down her face," Vasquez said. The baby has a skull fracture, cuts and bruising. Police said other children at the home caused the injuries while the caregivers were asleep.

Police reports said six children under age 5 were in the home along with the infant. A 5-year-old girl is believed to have caused most of the injuries. She was able to detail her account of the events to counselors at Omaha's Project Harmony.

OROSI, California (AP) -- The first newborn was discovered swaddled in a blanket on a park bench, an umbilical cord still hanging from his tiny body. Then, at neat 11-month intervals, two more abandoned babies were found in parked pickup trucks in the same neighborhood.

This week, DNA tests established all three babies were almost certainly born to the same mother.

Now, in a heartbreaking mystery that has transfixed this central California farm community of 7,300, investigators are trying to find the mother and figure out what drove her to such desperate lengths.

All three newborns were found within a two-block radius. The first two -- a boy and a girl -- survived and are now wards of the state.

The third baby was found dead of exposure on the cold night of December 3. She was enveloped in a sweatshirt in the bed of a pickup parked near the high school, some 60 miles southeast of Fresno. The coroner concluded she was alive for less than a day.

SUFFOLK -- Police said an 18-year-old Suffolk man battered a 4-week-old baby because the baby reminded him of a man he doesn't like.

Breon Lashawn Perry, who was accused of causing brain damage to the child, was charged with felony child abuse and aggravated malicious wounding, Suffolk police Lt. Debbie George said.

After investigating, police found out the baby and his 3-year-old sister were left in the care of Perry, the mother's boyfriend, while the mother was at work. Perry struck the baby several times in the face and head because the child reminded Perry of the child's father, whom Perry did not like, George said.

WEST HARTFORD - -- Two women found in a car with an infant were arrested on charges they parked the car and used heroin, police said Monday.

Nicole Thorpe, 20, of Lawrence Street in the Rockville section of Vernon, and Stacey Busque, 33, of Bristol, were charged with risk of injury to a minor, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Police found needles, heroin and empty bags that had contained heroin inside the car when it was searched Wednesday.

Thorpe is the mother of the baby found in the car, police said.

ACAPULCO, Mexico - A 14-year-old boy has acknowledged killing a 4-year-old girl because the girl's father allegedly made fun of his acne, prosecutors in the Pacific coast state of Guerrero reported Monday.

The boy, Jose Sandoval Bautista, had exhibited behavior problems in the past, and was remanded to a center for minor offenders. The killing occurred March 16 in the resort town of Zihuatanejo, northwest of Acapulco, where both children lived.

Guerrero state prosecutor Pedro Loyo Malabar said that victim Yurani Yuliec Garcia Organes, 4, and her father, a bricklayer and electrician, lived just a few yards from Sandoval Bautista's house.

Sandoval Bautista, who was detained on Saturday, told police he committed the killing because the girl's father had called him "graniento," or "zit-face."

"He acknowledged having taken the girl's life out of resentment he felt toward the girl's father ... because he made fun of the problem he has with acne," Loyo Malabar said.

"He acknowledged hitting the girl twice with his hands and putting his foot on her neck until she died of asphyxiation," the prosecutor told reporters.

The boy wrapped the body in plastic bags and hid it in his house for two days before dumping it on a mound of gravel outside the little girl's grandparents' house, Loyo Malabar said.

Neighbors of the lower-income area not far from Zihuatanejo's hotel zone said the boy had long shown signs of disturbed behavior, including masturbating in public and eviscerating cats.

HOUSTON - For at least two days, neighbors at a city apartment complex noticed an acrid aroma, black smoke and leaping flames coming from two barbecue grills on the balcony of a second-floor apartment.

What, neighbors at the Red Oak Place apartments wondered, was going on in the unit where 27-year-old Timothy Wayne Shepherd lived? What was he burning at all hours, for days at a time?

The answer turned their stomachs.

According to law enforcement officials, Shepherd dismembered, and then burned the body of his former girlfriend, Tynesha Stewart, a 19-year-old Texas A&M University student. Nothing remains of Stewartâ??s body, Harris County Sheriff Tommy Thomas said at a press conference Saturday.

Authorities said Shepherd has confessed to strangling and dismembering Stewart, a college freshman who was home on spring break, because he was angry that she had started a new relationship.

Dionne Whitaker, 31, who lives in the complex, said she saw Shepherd carry the grill and smoker to a garbage bin a day or so later, the newspaper said.

Human remains generally require extremely high temperatures to destroy, and authorities have not said how it is possible that Stewartâ??s remains could be completely burned on a patio grill.

WEBSTER, Fla. -- Authorities in Central Florida serving a federal search warrant in a child pornography investigation Friday morning discovered a house of filth in which a toddler and infant were living, according to a police report.

Corey James Cassels, 23, and Hannah Michelle Cassels, 18, were arrested and charged with child abuse after Sumter County sheriff's investigators along with FBI agents searched their house.

As deputies entered the singlewide mobile home, they observed it to be in a totally filthy state, according to the report. The flooring was covered with clothing and the house was filthy with dirt and grime and there were multiple flies within the residence, deputies said.

A 10-month-old boy was found in a crib, and posters and a calender of naked women were above the crib on a wall, according to the report. There were multiple Playboy magazines in the house and several posters featuring naked women covered the bedroom walls, deputies said.

The kitchen was littered with dirty dishes, and the refrigerator was filthy with spoiled and rotten food, deputies said.

Knives were also within the children's reach, according to deputies.

The infant and a 3-year-old girl were both covered with dirt, according to the report. They were put in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.

A convicted child molester and his father took turns sexually assaulting a 6-year-old boy while the molester's mother watched, then they choked the boy to death, according to an indictment issued Wednesday.

The indictment charges all three family members with murder and child molestation in the slaying of young Christopher Michael Barrios, whose body was found last Thursday inside a trash bag dumped by a roadside.

District Attorney Stephen D. Kelley said he will seek the death penalty against 32-year-old George David Edenfield, who has a prior child molestation conviction from 1997, and his parents, David and Peggy Edenfield.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A woman was arrested on manslaughter charges for failing to take her 2-month-old grandson to a doctor for treatment that could have saved his life, police said.

Schwana Renae Smith, 34, had been caring for the baby after the infant's 16-year-old mother was arrested Jan. 25 on a charge of violation of probation, police said.

The infant, Rueben Alvin Manning III, died Jan. 31. He had an enlarged head that an exam after his death showed was caused by fluid on the brain, a buildup that caused the skull to swell.

An ultrasound had been scheduled for the infant to determine the cause of the swelling after a pediatrician examined him on Jan. 23. But police said the boy wasn't taken to the Jan. 26 appointment or to another appointment on Jan. 30. According to the arrest report, Smith told police it should have been someone else's responsibility.

Authorities were searching for the child's father, who apparently knew about the appointments.
