Double killer policeman 'planned to murder other family members before he was disturbed':

A policeman who shot his mother-in-law while on bail for his wife's murder was planning an even bigger killing spree, an inquest heard yesterday.
Garry Weddell intended to shoot down his brothers-in-law and their wives.
He also wanted to kill the married man with whom his wife Sandra had been having an affair, police believe.
But, shortly after he killed his mother-in- law, a police helicopter circled.
He thought her body had been discovered, and panicked.
To avoid justice, the 47- year-old inspector drove to a gun club and shot himself in the head.
Weddell had been freed on bail after a defence psychiatrist said he had no concerns about the Metropolitan Police officer's mental state.
Do you think that doctor is reassessing his diagnosis. Hell he better be reassessing his life choices.
One point for each murder, which is two, another point for plotting to kill even more, a point for the doctor for being an idiot, and one last point for killer cop taking the coward's way out for a total of four.

I follow a couple of English political blogs and email them on occasion for righty stuff and Sarah is right, seems like England has something in the water because it just gets more and more violent.
Though to be fair it's no more violent than NYC which I just moved from. The difference is that the England in our minds is full of charming tweed jacketed blokes so these stories are shocking to us.
This story though is crazy. Why was he out on bail and why was a man out on bail able to get hold of a gun in a country that regularly lectures us on our lax gun laws?
In regard to the other case, I don't know what the hell is going on. A few years ago, the police launched operation Trident to tackle "black on black" crime. Seems to me that they need to start looking at "youth on youth" crime. Our teenagers are killing each other. It used to be a punch up in the playground. Now they are armed to the teeth.
